About the award:
The Krastan Dyankov Translation Award was established in 2007 and will be given for the sixth time this year. The award is granted annually for an outstanding translation of a contemporary novel of high literary quality from English into Bulgarian. The original edition in English must be published after 1980, whereas the translation in Bulgarian, between 1 January 2011 and 17 September 2012. The main award amounts to BGN 3000. Since 2009, the foundation has also given a special award equal to BGN 1500. Every literary translator whose translation meets the award criteria could be nominated.
About Krastan Dyankov:
Krastan Dyankov (1933-1999) was a renowned Bulgarian translator from English into Bulgarian. He translated works by numerous important 20th century American authors, among them John Steinbeck, John Updike, Erskine Caldwell, John Cheever and William Faulkner.
