Matera city, Italy, is one of the candidates for the title European Capital of Culture in 2019. Regarding the nomination, the city is organizing the international festival - Materadio, in partnership with Rai Radio 3. The festival will be between 21rd and 23th of September. Participating are artists from Italy and other European countries, as well as journalists from electronic media, who will have the chance to organize live broadcasting from the hot spot. For 3 days citizens and guеsts of Matera will witness a rich cultural program, active musical events with prominent artists from the Italian and the world art stage. 

Main focus of the initiative this year will be past, current and future candidates for European capital of culture from the four cardinal directions of Europe: North is presented by Turku 2011, West – by Guimaraes 2012, South – by Marseille 2013 and East by Sofia 2019. 

The cultural program of Sofia 2019 will be presented by Sofia Soloists, conducted by Prof. Plamen Djurov, member of the Initiative committee Sofia 2019. The media coverage and the live broadcasting from Matera are entrusted to another member of the Initiative committee, supporting the candidature of Sofia for European capital of culture 2019 – the Darik radio host Kiril Vylchev.
