Pilsen’s candidature was a natural progression for its long-term vision of an open cultural city. The motto of the candidature and of the whole Pilsen project is “Pilsen, Open Up!” It is this openness to new ideas, innovation and creativity, towards its own citizens and towards Europe, that is central to all its programme streams. It is also about opening up a new space for minority genres and movements, multicultural society, inter-generational dialogue, the interconnection of art and business, science and games, culture and education, art and technologies, creativity and relaxation, public spaces and art and so on. We understand openness as a concept related to the whole society, it also means to us the courage to confront things and to be transparent in all processes.
